Adam’s work often associates with traditional craft and domesticity, driven by processes of physical and conceptual transformation. The artist uses simple methods of production; shredding, crumpling and weaving regular disposable media into aesthetically forbidding objects, propelling the material vernacular into new directions. This new body of work begins to explore the historical representation of the female in a series of gesturally crushed paper busts, installed in a museum style milieu. Instigating a dialogue between function and decoration in a purposeful placement of visual props, Adams investigates hegemonic and conformist notions within art history and culture.
